Community Development

 Is a division under the Community  Development department  

which encompasses an Economic Development Coordinator, Economic Development Officer and  Secretary all under the direction and supervision of the Director of Community Development. 

The Local Economic Department plays a major role in  developing individual and community projects and assisting to establish a continuing operational social-economic development system for the community of Mistissini in all fields of economic development 

Objectives 

• To assist innovated local entrepreneurs and already existing  business enterprises in their  development and community projects. 
• To provide administrative, consultative and other related technical and financial assistance to aid existing businesses.  
• To establish a continual liaison and follow-up with existing businesses 
• To provide adequate information and/or training to disseminate for general awareness and tools of economic needs  
• To establish a structure to meet the present and future economic needs of the community  
• To support and build the capacity of current and prospective business owners to increase their readiness to operate in the local economy.

Land Management and Environment Division (LMED) oversees different aspects of land use planning and implementation, environmental management and monitoring for our community.  These include policies and procedures related to the Community Master Plan, Zoning Law and its applications, Lot allocation procedures, Environmental Protection Law, monitoring of forestry-related activities and other developments. The LMED team is available to provide further information and understanding to these different processes, assist in their application, while ensuring compliance to the established measures and laws. LMED welcomes the opportunity to provide reliable and valuable service to our community members.

A number of projects and initiatives are managed through the LMED team including:  

• Waste Management Planning  
• Land Management and Resource Planning  
• Fish Management Plans  
• Environmental Site Assessment

The mission of the Cree Nation of Mistissini Fire Department is to serve the community by protecting life, property and the environment through prevention, education, and immediate professional response to emergencies. 

Some of the key roles that the Mistissini Fire Department performs are:  

• Public Education  
• Fire Inspections (Code Enforcement)  
• Fire Investigations  
• Pre-Incident Planning  
• Community Risk Assessment  
• Residential Fire Safety Surveys  

The Public Safety Division also has a vital role in providing public safety services in our community. The key roles delivered are emergency measures planning, developing emergency management plans, by-law enforcement (animal control), and prevention programs geared at promoting awareness such as; ice/water safety, boating safety, gun safety, etc.
