Our Department

The mandate of the Health and Social Development department is provide assistance to the community and its members by providing programs and services that increases the wellbeing of our members. As a department we organize  events for the Community for the Elders and for the Youth. We are active in health and social development and prevention. We have one of the most active departments and  the  support we provide to the community is greatly appreciated. Our department is creatively working in partnership with other stakeholders, entities and various levels of government. We share our success with all our partners, without them our department wouldn’t see the successes of our people.

Celebrating wellness and culture

The journey of wellness is a decades-old tradition in Mistissini that offers an opportunity to reconnect with culture as part of healing. Each year, men and women in our community join together to embark on a snowshoeing excursion that takes them to traditional camps and settings and Eeyou Istchee. This opportunity has a number of important commitments that the participants undertake:

1. A commitment to sobriety and healthy living
2. A commitment to help one another and connect with their cultural roots
3. A commitment to continuing with their journey as a physical and mental discipline both during and after their program has ended.
