Uchimaahkaan | ᐅᒋᒫᐦᑳᓐ
The role of a Uchimaahkaan has a long and proud history within the Cree Nation, and is considered a figure that leads their people. The word for Chief in Cree is Uchimaahkaan, which can be interpreted as a leader made by their people.
The Office of the Chief oversees the political vision and priorities of the members of the Cree Nation of Mistissini. Along with their Deputy Chief and Council they serve for a period of 4 years. Chief Neeposh is responsible for overseeing External Affairs/ Governance, Communications, and Resource Development within the Council portfolio.

John S.Matoush is the current Deputy Chief of Mistissini serving his second term
The Deputy Chief is responsible to oversee any files that are designated through the Chief’s office as well as to be acting Chief in the absence of the Chief. John S. Matoush is currently serving his second term as Deputy Chief and is responsible for Administration and Land within the Council portfolio.
