TITLE:                                   Lifeguard (2)

STATUS:                                 Permanent

CORE FUNCTIONS:

Under the general direction of the Council of the Cree Nation of Mistissini,, but more specifically under the supervision of the Coordinator of Aquatics Programs and Development, the lifeguard shall ensure swimmers’ safety throughout the year. She/he is to monitor swimmers and ensure that they observe the regulations of the pool to prevent accidents and to maintain discipline, helping swimmers in difficulty and providing first aid in case of an accident. She/he is also responsible to inspect and maintain the aquatic facility in a safe and sanitary state.  She/he must be available to work odd hours, evenings, and weekends as well.

 

CHARACTERISTIC FUNCTIONS:

  • Perform lifeguarding duties, following the recommendation of the Lifesaving Society
  • Assist in assessing program needs and developing a schedule of programs, activities, and events.
  • Assist in managing all the programs and the swim team.
  • Instructing/teaching all lifeguarding courses.
  • Coaching and training all team.
  • Inspect the facility on a daily schedule and report on any unsafe conditions or equipment.
  • Enforces pool rules and regulations for the safety and convenience of users.
  • Ensures that changing rooms are safe and clean.
  • Ensure equipment is available, in good condition, and properly put away after use.
  • Prepare an incident and injury report when needed.
  • Assist in the monitoring of chlorine levels and pH balance of the water daily.
  • Report incidents or injuries to the Aquatic Programs Supervisor.
  • Complies with all policies and procedures of the Council of the Cree Nation of Mistissini:
  • When appropriate and necessary, must work hours that correspond to the hours that are required for recreation and leisure activities, including evenings, weekends, and holidays
  • When appropriate and necessary, participates in training programs, such as conferences, seminars, correspondence courses, and continuing education courses to upgrade knowledge and skills related to his/her job.
  • Performs other duties whenever requested.

EMPLOYMENT REQUIREMENTS:

  • High School Diploma
  • Valid National Lifeguard Certification
  • Required to pass the swim test and aquatic first aid test (items in National Lifeguard certification)
  • 1 to 3 years of relevant experience
  • Swimming Instructor certification is an asset
  • Customer-focused and service-oriented.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to multitask.
  • Proven ability to demonstrate strong judgment and take initiative;
  • Knowledge of basic safety precautions and standards.
  • Working knowledge of computers and Microsoft Office products.
  • Fluency in Cree and English; Fluency in French is an asset
  • Flexibility; must be willing to work evenings, weekends and holidays.

SALARY RANGE JOB CLASS 3:                  $45,426.00 to $68,138.00

SPECIAL ALLOWANCE:                              $10,000.00 annually

RETENTION PREMIUM:                             $2000.00 annually
