TITLE: WATER OPERATOR
STATUS: PERMANENT
CORE FUNCTIONS:
Under the general direction of the Cree Nation of Mistissini but more specifically under the supervision of the Water Operator Supervisor, the Water Operator is responsible for performing technical and specialized work to ensure water is safe for the Community use. The incumbent must also assists the Supervisor in performing duties related to operation and maintenance of a water distribution system and treatment facilities.
CHARACTERISTIC FUNCTIONS:
- Ensure that water produced in the water plant meets or exceeds potable water regulations
- Perform work in the maintenance, inspection, dispatch, repair, and recording of meter reading of the water and waste water distribution system
- Perform work for the installation, repair, upgrading and maintenance of the water and waste water system, according to existing plans and specifications
- Assists the Water Operator Supervisor in conducting regular inspection of water and waste water systems
- Operate, inspect and monitor mechanical and electrical equipment in order to detect leaks and malfunctions and report any issues to the Water Operator Supervisor
- Perform inspection of fire hydrant twice a year; Spring and Autumn
- Ensure an adequate amount of inventory of supplies and materials, work with the Warehouse Clerk to order supplies when necessary and according to the budget
- Ensure compliance with laws regarding drinking water and wastewater treatment
- Maintain field-operating manuals
- Must work one weekend On-call as per assigned work schedule for Water Operators
- Must respond to emergency calls including on evenings, weekends and holidays; Additional responsibilities
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge and skills in area(s) of responsibility through attendance at meetings, conferences, and training seminars
- Acts as a back-up/replacement for one or more members of the department as needed
- Follow and complete work orders received from the Water Operator Supervisor
- Must maintain up-to-date certification
- Performs other duties as required.
QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS:
- Must have a Water Operator Certificate (OPA or OTUND)
- Must hold a valid class 5 drivers’ license
- One year or less of relevant experience
- Spoken fluency in Cree and English with Written fluency in English, French will be considered an asset
- Knowledge of water and sewer systems
- Proven ability to communicate effectively
- Proven ability to be keep information confidential
- Demonstrated attention to detail and accuracy
- Proven organizational skills
- Strong judgment and proven ability to problem solve
- Demonstrated ability to work under pressure and to adapt to a changing environment
- Must be willing to work with a flexible schedule in evenings and weekends, Work may require frequent moderate or considerable physical effort
- Must work according to regulatory standards.
SALARY GRADE: Job Class 3: $45,426.00 to $68,138.00
SPECIAL ALLOWANCE: $10,000.00 Annually
RETENTION PREMIUM: $2,000.00 Annually
